I bought this in 12/08 and ever since has sounded like a popcorn machine. Everyone that hears it asks about it. The freezer section seems to be the culprit, popping loudly for the first 15-30 seconds when coming on. Afterwards is fine but totally distracting noise. Called Amana and said 'thats normal' and referred me to the manual that said 'certain noises are normal'. I bought this special order sight unseen so had no prior warning.

Exactly, I thought the noise is kindda weird. I thought that it was only my unit that has this weird sound. This is the noisiest refrigerator I've ever had, too. But the other features are working perfectly fine. The size fits my kitchen nicely and it has convenient storage areas inside.
